Major Merchant Energy Trader in Geneva wants 2 senior/lead structured traders. Excellent pay and seniority for the right person(s). Outstanding bonus opportunity.

My Client:
Specialist trading arm of a major energy utility, recently internally re-jigged such that the structured trading group will lead the company’s trading.

Trading is less physical and more financial than is common for utility trading arms, and much more aggressive.

The Structured Energy Group:
Currently 17 but set to expand. Clients are predominantly large industrials but also some power wholesalers/retailers and some buy-side investors. Deals are constructed in physical and financial packages and spreads of oil, gas, power, carbon, and coal, taking best advantage of the existing long-term positions carried in the portfolio.

The Structured Power Desk:
Currently 4, looking for 2 more immediately and planned to grow as rapidly as you can drive it. Currently only one mid-seniority trader; the other 3 all have less than 3 years experience.

The Job:
Focussed on power (surprise!) but a LOT of work with cross-commodity spreads. Markets are mostly FR, IT, CH, AT, DE, ES, & CIS, in no particular order.
Structuring transactions and instruments in light of current market and portfolio/existing txns; instructing and dispatching and driving the originators; trading/executing/managing the book.
If the originators are bringing a lot of flow to your desk, that will be viewed as a sign that you’re not giving them enough to do. Supported by a couple of on-desk analysts valuing optionality, plus sharing access to specialist quant group and structuring group.

You:
Ideally you will be reasonably quantitative without being a quant – you must have an excellent understanding of extrinsic value, and a trader’s head. Strong in financial trading, but built on a strong physical basis. Proactive, alert to opportunities in the markets/portfolio, capable of feeding the originators and targeting them well. My client is interested in further developing the more illiquid markets, so if you have good experience in say FR or IT or ES markets (note, this is not the same as merely working for a trader IN those markets), they will want to talk to you.

The Money Shot:
My client has deliberately positioned themselves to compete fully at top level. This includes hiring top level staff.
Full relocation package goes without saying.
Solid base salaries, plus further “on-target” bonuses of 100%.
But the big one: performance bonus linked directly to your P&L, at rates equivalent to the bulgebracket.
