A meteorologist is required to create and manage the client's "corporate view" of the weather, to serve as input to the structuring and origination division's trading and risk management.
This role has been FILLED. However, although rare, such roles do come up again periodically -- if you would like to be considered and possibly contacted next time, please send your CV by clicking on "Apply for job".
The client is one of Europe's leading energy companies and a highly profitable energy merchant trading business, active in commodities like power, gas, coal, LNG, bio-fuels, emissions, freight and sustainable energy.
Weather developments constitute a key driver of future energy demand (particularly gas) and can therefore have a significant impact on market prices. Our client wishes to strengthen its forecasting team by hiring a trained Meteorologist.
The primary responsibility of the role will be to deliver short term weather forecasts to traders and warn about sudden changes in weather upon which traders can act. The candidate will therefore be expected to play a leading role in:
collecting weather data and acting as central point of contact for weather providers and meteorological institutes used by Essent;
interpreting weather data provided by these institutes;
researching weather conditions and patterns which might affect energy trading; and
creating weather forecasts directly useful to the traders.
In addition, the candidate will provide advice on long-term/seasonal forecasts, and on global/local climate trends. Particular focus will be in temperature forecasting in order to help predict future gas volume demand from customers.
