Exciting opportunity to work in a leading energy company, which uniquely combines front office structured products' and hedges' modelling & valuation activities, with portfolio risk modelling. You will be responsible for modelling structured hedges, pricing risk premia of structured products, and forecasting risk.

 Main Purpose of Job:


To be a senior member of the team responsible for provision of structuring and valuation input to the management of internal portfolio risks and complex supply and export contracts. The structuring and valuation team is recognised as the company experts in complex risk appraisal across the business divisions. These skills are highly valued and recognised as important to the future profitability of the retail business. The risks and opportunities the team are dealing with are worth many millions of pounds. The team is required to work closely with counterparts in the company's wholesale trading arm and its energy assets arm (generator plants, renewables) 

Principal Accountabilities:

The post holder will be responsible for:

  • Delivering the structuring and valuation needs of our Business and Residential divisions, Risk Management function and other Commercial functions.
  • Design and implementation of suitable models for pricing exotic energy derivative structures.
  • Supporting the structuring and valuation needs of our Business and Residential divisions, Risk Management function and other Commercial functions.
  • Advising Risk Management on the quantitative finance aspects of risk capture and measurement.
  • Analytical support for the development of hedging strategies, provision of back testing, regression analysis, stress tests and potential future earnings analysis for the models developed.
  • Providing structuring support for new and existing products across the business.
  • Develop the teams’ skill set to ensure that it is current with new and evolving techniques, while defining resource requirements and recruiting when appropriate.

Problem Solving/Complexity:

The role will be highly analytical and will require a strong understanding of:

  • wholesale gas and power markets
  • financial instruments
  • finance theory
  • derivatives
  • retail pricing
  • transaction valuation
  • credit risk
  • preferably also: environmental products (ROCs, LECs, REGOs and Carbon (EU ETS)).

Knowledge and Skills:

The post holder will have a strong academic background and ideally experience in the energy/financial markets. 

The post holder will:

  • Have a numerate first degree or equivalent (for example in Finance/Maths/Engineering) with preferably a higher degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.
  • Demonstrate strong economic, market and financial analytical skills.
  • Have excellent management skills backed up by relevant experience.
  • Have good IT skills: MS Office suite (especially Excel), VB(A), statistical packages.
  • Have experience in the UK/EU energy market or in a financial environment.
  • Have excellent theoretical knowledge of derivative instruments and practical experience in their applications and behaviour. In depth understanding of valuation and risk analysis methods.
  • Demonstrate ability to transform theoretical knowledge to practical, real-world situations.
  • Be results-oriented, able to meet tight deadlines and produce clear and concise feedback/reports to senior management.
  • Be able to cope in a high pressure environment.

The post holder will have an excellent understanding of:

  • Options pricing and hedging, volatility and correlation.
  • Valuation of complex transactions.
  • Statistical analysis, regression and stress testing.

Location:

One role is based in Gloucestershire, one role in the Midlands.
