The Illiquid Structuring Division of one of Europe's largest energy majors needs a Team Leader for its Modelling Group. Your models will directly manage 250 terawatt-hours of Supply and a *huge* Storage portfolio, optimising in the liquid tenors, structuring in the illiquid tenors.
The position is at the group's head office on the Rhine in western Germany, responsible for managing the Long-Term Structuring of the core asset and supply portfolio.
The Modelling Group works in conjunction with the Structurers, both teams reporting into the Head of Illiquid Commodity Risk [Trading]. At full strength you will lead 6 others (hiring 2 more juniors will be one of your tasks after joining), currently with qualifications ranging from PhD in Stats thru to combined Economics/Computer-Science degrees. Behind this team is a specialist company-wide team of about 50 quants and quant developers.
The overall task of the Illiquid Commodity Risk [Trading] group is to structure and optimise the company's Long-Term Supply (both market and assets), actively managing risk in the front-office sense of adopting tactical stances to maximise P&L, rather than being a middle-office risk-measuring role. In the short/liquid tenors, the focus of your job will be econometric modelling and mapping onto market instruments. Further out in the illiquid tenors, the focus of your job will be mathematical modelling, creating then pricing structured transactions.
You will need good IT skills particularly in the area of understanding/manipulating market data. You need to be good commercially, not just in the quant/instrument mechanics. You do not NEED to speak German, but it will be advantageous.
